South Crestone Lake Hike

It's a nice site when the Aspen and Cottonwood start to turn. Knowing this weekend would be good weather, and not knowing what next weekend would bring, Charlie and I decided to hike up to South Crestone Lake yesterday. I've never been on this hike. It's different from Willow in that it's a bit shorter, and the majority of the hike is mild until you begin pitching up fairly steeply the last mile or so. Also, despite the number of cars we saw at the trailhead (proper), we didn't encounter anyone else on the trail until we were nearly back down.

For those of you in-town: some light snow along the way, but most of the snowfall from 2 weeks ago has already melted. The north slopes above 12,000 had nice snow packs. Charlie also took some water samples at the lake and then again downstream close to the wilderness boundary for a science project his class will be doing.

Jay, that picture of the aspens would really be pretty blown up and framed.
