Diana, Lenore and Betsy hiking North Crestone

Here are our dear friends, Lenore and Diana, with their bloodhound, Betsy, on the North Crestone trail. They came to stay overnight with us and we celebrated all of our birthdays, late and early, with dinner and movies and Diana's upside-down cake. Lenore and i have known each other for a decade and will both be turning 40 this weekend, me on the 29th, she on the 30th. Lenore is, among many things, a professional photographer. She will be accompanying me on an upcoming service trip to Slidell, La, where we will be photographing and making video tape of the children of Brock Elementary. Their school was totally destroyed in Hurricane Katrina and Crestone Charter school is wanting to partner with a Louisiana school affected by the Hurricane this year as a service learning project. Lenore and i will bring the stories of Brock Elementary students back to Crestone children so they can better identify the needs of these students in their service projects and make a personal connection to the children they will be serving. I have learned so much about Compassion through my friendship with Lenore, it is a privilege to have her has a travel companion for this very special pilgrimage to Louisiana in the aftermath of Katrina.

What a great idea for a school project. And a big Attaboy to you for helping it along. There's probably no greater diversity than a school in Louisiana and one in Colorado but when you get right down to it, the goals are the same.
By the way, your Mom and Dad are fun people to be around. We were there over the weekend for the high school reunion. But you already knew that, didn't you?
I enjoy your photos. Keep 'em coming. Meanwhile, hope you had a happy milestone birthday.

Thanks Leroy, we are really looking forward to the journey down to Slidell and New Orleans. We will spend one day in the city with our cameras and our open eyes and hearts. Glad the reunion was fun! I heard great reports :)
Hi Kathryn! Happy Birthday, and welcome to the 40s. Just as I am leaving them behind. So we are just about exactly 10 years apart, plus a few months. It's the hubbie's b-day this month too. A Halloween baby and a Scorpio like you (has his Sun and three other planets in Scorpio). My love to Lenore. A wonderful project you two are embarking on. Very healing for many, and for you too, I suspect. Much love to you....

Happy B-Day to John! Is halloween is actual birthday? Wow. Neat!
Yep, it's his actual birthday. We went to several scary haunted houses to celebrate. After a wonderful dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. Very fun. I love his birthday almost as much as he does.

I'm sure Lenore will agree with me and John, Halloweenish Scorpios LOVE their b-days! I've got to call my sister-in-law, Mandy, who is also a Oct 31st b-day girl!
