returning home

Here we are in the San Luis Valley at the end of our road trip. The journey continues, of course, as our hearts stay connected to Louisiana and all we experienced there on this trip. The work of really focusing our combined energies on some level of service/relief for the beautiful Gulf Coast will really begin now.

WELCOME HOME!

Thanks Alex. We will share the video footage from Brock Elementary with the school community here and begin assessing the area of need we want to focus on. The librarian told of a mini-tragedy within the larger tragedy--the library on the 2nd floor was spared flooding, but she was not allowed to return to collect the library books because of the mold and floor rotting danger. So, heartbreakingly, the entire school library collection, although in fine condition, was lost. The school is now sharing campus space with Florida Elementary. Though they can be in the libary there, the Brock students cannot check out books to take home. Why? Because they do not have homes! Many children are living in tents, trailers, motels, etc while the rebuilding process is underway. The Florida Ave library staff is concerned that their books will not be returned if they let them leave campus with the Brock kids. So...Lenore and i both felt that this was an area where immediate support could be focused. As more specific projects develop through the Crestone community, i will post these on the blog. We have many friends who have wanted to either give time or money towards Hurricane Relief, but wanted to know how their support would be reaching those affected. This will be a great way to begin supporting small recovery for a community that is really deserving.
I am eager to get the library project going...I have several books already pegged from my classroom library. We have such abundance it is time to share it here. It is also so heartening to read the other postings and hear of your supportive friends (not that I would suspect differently!)
Thanks Dear Deerwoman, is this Anrayah? I need to post more of what is happening with our Christmas mailings for this week and the spring service efforts, and the Library project.
