Turning 40 in Chaco Canyon

What an incredible 40th birthday i had in Chaco Canyon. Jay, Finn and I camped beneath the enormous, curving rock walls of this ancient and beautiful place. Chaco was a thriving cultural center for native peoples between 800-1250 ad. The structures are built with an amazing sense of intuition for the natural balance of the area, in perfect alignment with sun/moon rotational axis'. Something very special happened here for about 300 years. Then, whatever needs determined the creation and use of these buildings changed, and many of the traditions and the people who practiced them were incorporated into outerlying Pueblo cultures of the 4 corners area. What's kind of neat is that to this day none of the archeologists, native elders, or anyone who has seriously studied Chaco can say definitely what was going on here. The nature of the place continues to evoke a sense of reverence and mystery. We'll definitely be returning to spend a longer time in this area. This is far too rich a place to spend only one night. But what a great invitation from the energy of this sacred place, to enter more deeply into the mystery and beauty of the next half of my life. A well-spent day and night in Chaco Canyon.

You look so happy here. What an amazing place you have moved to. The next half of your life, yes. Seems to me it promises to be very beautiful and exquitely mysterious. Especially in such a place, with elk running through your back yard!!

Love you,

Alex

ohhhh, thank you alex :) you have GOT to put Chaco on you and John's schedule. I'd avoid summer as the heat is unbearable in this part of NM.

Yes, Chaco is most definitely on our list. What months/time of year would you recommend?
