Bay St. Louis, Mississippi

We drove today into Slidell, Waveland and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Roads are mostly cleared and passable, people are camping in their yards in tents, working on gutting their houses, if the house is standing. We drove through about 60 miles of destruction. I'm raw and wordless. No picture can convey the breadth of the damage, the loss, the dirtiness (they haven't had rain here since Rita, so layers of dried mud, deconstruction debris, mold and despair cover everything). Still, it feels very good and right to be here in person, to witness with my eyes and heart the experience.

Hello Kathryn and Lenore!!!

Wow. I am so in awe of what you are doing. My heart feels huge and full for you both. To be willing to bear witness, to not turn away because it's too hard and painful, that is maybe the most powerful thing we can do for each other. You are my heroes!!!!

Yes, please, post stuff when you have a chance. Now that I'm home, I can keep checking up on your progress!!!

I love you BOTH soooo much!!!!!

Alex
