Elkiness

Bringing Finn home from school today we came across this small elk "herd." They were right next to the road, so I zipped homeward to grab the camera and this is one of the shots I came up with. This time, instead of a zoom lens, a wide angle would have helped.

They were only in a slight tiff at my dawdling nearby. The big male in the center just stared me down, while the females closest to the road pranced around going "ew-woooh, ew-woooh, beware beware!"

One day I really want to take the camera to the edge of the grants near the ranch and try to get some shots of the really big herd that hangs out over there.

Click on the small pic above to see a slightly bigger version (blogger won't let me post the image in its full-size elkiness).

Wow, so many elk around there. So very cool. We are having a huge cold spell here—bitterly cold for Portland, and colder than we've felt it since leaving the East Coast. With wind chills (from the 20+ mph winds we are having) it's about 13 degrees. Very chilly for our neck of the woods. We have become quite spoiled and unused to such coldness. Brrrrrr.....

Must be nothing for you pioneers braving the Colorado plains! Love....

20 mph winter winds will kick your tuckus. It doesn't even have to be that cold and that kind of wind will freeze your behind off. It's just a torment! It got cold here again this week, too. I'm eyeing the wind layers at sierra trading post outlet...do you know this place for cheap gear?
