Reaching Birch Road

So we came into Colorado from Trinidad and Walensburg and then over the La Veta pass into Alamosa. We drove north from Alamosa in darkness, up through the flat valley, stars and car lights twinkling on the edges of the mountain ranges. We found a local spanish-language radio station and listened to a litany of feliz cumpleanos with excellent musical accompaniment. We drove into Crestone and turned into the Baca Grande subdivision and made our way softly and slowly down into the Grants into our driveway. By ten o'clock we were in the house and opening windows and putting down mats for sleeping. Our first night in our new home was restful and comforting. At first light i got up and took photos. The first picture is sunrise over the Sangres in the morning, and the picture below is sunset over the San Juans.
