Our new woodstove

Nathan Goode is a Crestone icon, he's installed hundreds of woodstoves and spas in homes throughout the area. He's got a sterling reputation and is always busy. He and his assistant, George (who is building his own home not far from us, a Nautilus shaped form in a cement material), came out today and installed our cast iron woodstove. We chose a hearthstone model in basic black, a little workhorse that can heat up to 1600 sq ft. We've got about 1200 sq. ft. downstairs, so this should keep us covered. The little green Jotul propane stove is now mounted upstairs as a backup heat source. We don't want to rely on propane as our main heat source because it's so expensive. The woodstove will give us another level of sustainability out here in the Grants. The pics are Nathan (waving from back of truck) and George, and Nathan and Jay setting the first fire in the hearthstone.

Jay, that is really beautiful! It acts as inspiration to get out there and try something artistic for myself.

Lovely mosaic! And neat stove!!! I'm looking out the window at that view of yours, what I can see of it. We have a wood-burning fireplace that we use constantly. It does help to offset our natural gas heating bill. It's gone up too and can get quite costly, even for this little house!

Neat stuff!!

We LOVE the woodstove, the heat is so much warmer than the propane. It is so funny (and rewarding in a pioneerish sort of way) to see the outside temp at 5 degrees and inside it is 68 just from the woodstove.
