Independence Pass

Finn and I are on vacation. In all our trips through Colorado, we've never been to the ritzy section of the mountains... you know: Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge. So today we headed straight for Aspen and discovered that it's knock-down gorgeous and less than 3 hours away, even with a couple of stops for sodas and to check out the pass.

The photos shown above are at the top of Independence Pass. The drive up here is really spectacular, and I would recommend it to anyone coming through Colorado in the Summer (the pass is closed most of the year). The drive up to the pass is narrow, steep, and full of hair-pinned turns with dramatic drop-offs right next to your car (and no guard rails). Stunning scenery the whole way.

Afterwards we dropped into town, skipped right past all the Gucci stores, and quickly found a mountain store that carried our sought-after accessory: an aero-frisbee. We then cruised into the park in the center of town to see if we still got it... which we do. We shared the park w/ some guys practicing lacrosse, some other frisbee throwers, and a father/son team who had one of those wind-up birds.
After building up a sweat, we headed back out of town and down the road.
