Finn and his class leave for New Orleans

Finn's middle school class left this morning on their Great Rivers Trip. They will start at the headwaters of the Arkansas river up in Leadville, Co. They will take water samples every 100 miles to test water quality, then when the Arkansas converges with the Mississippi river they will head south. They will stay at Holiday Inn's along the way until they are in Louisiana. Then they've got great accomodations in Harrisonburg with my family, in New Orleans with Jay's folks, and in Abita Springs with Finn's friend Graham Hammaker. They will conduct water testing the entire way, and get a tour of the French Quarter, the Levee systems in New Orleans, visit Honey Island Swamp and Brock Elementary. They will finally reach the Gulf of Mexico in Bay St. Louis, MS and do a beach clean-up. They've left time to swing by Graceland in Memphis on their way home. They'll be gone 12 days--I think they'll be exhausted but have a fun and meaningful time. Finn's in the back row of this pick, second kid left of his teacher, Charlie.
