Weather

Seems like we haven't had a discussion of weather yet. This would be the Summer Report.

Morning. Wake up. Cool. Somewhere in the 60s. Later in the day it gets bone dry hot. Somewhere in the 80s. We don't have air conditioning (no one does, really), so it has that same lethargic quality that all summers do: you want to lounge around and conserve energy. No humidity to speak of. Doesn't rain a lick. Sometimes it looks like rain and smells like rain, but it ain't rain. We had a 'storm' the other night. I think I could have moistened a toothbrush if it were left outside.

As the sun lowers towards the horizon, the winds kick up. Serious wind. Knocks-over-rocking-chairs-sitting-in-sand serious wind. Dust devils swirl about. And not a gust, but a sustained, ass-kicking wind. It's amazing. You know how serious thunderstorms are down south? The kind you actually start to become concerned over? This is the wind equivalent of that. No rain, just a huge chunk of air moving from one side of the earth to the other... and you're in the way.

Evening. The winds either continue to around midnight, or start tapering off shortly after the sunsets. The sunsets are spectacular every night without exception so far. Must be all that sand kicked up into the atmoshpere from the wind.

Night. Cools down quickly. Go to bed with the windows cracked. If there's even a tiny breeze: nature's air-conditioner.

Wake up the next morning. Repeat.

yep, prayer flags! The idea is Buddhist, but the actual flags are made of rayon and batik and have images that honor creativity.
