Honey Island Swamp Tour

Tuesday afternoon we left the city and headed to Slidell for a tour of Honey Island Swamp. Though the fishing camps and homes along this Bayou were decimated by the tidal surge of the storm, the swamp and wildlife had faired well. We saw a variety of egrets and herons, turtles and snakes, and even the head of one secretive gator back along a slough. The enveloping green, the slow moving water, and the mild weather was very good for us after two days of city service and disaster. That's Captain Mel letting the group take turns holding a small non-venomous snake.
